Associations for the defense of women's rights are to take to the streets today in several cities in Portugal in demonstrations for the end of violence against women.

Today (25 November) marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with demonstrations planned in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Viseu, Viana do Castelo, and Vila Real.

There will also be vigils, meetings, debates, and conferences, in Bragança, Funchal, Matosinhos, Lagoa, and Mangualde.

In Lisbon, at the end of the March for the End of Violence Against Women, the manifesto "Mulheres, Vida, Liberdade" will be read and signed by 34 feminist organizations and more than a hundred people individually.

"In addition to reading the Manifesto, there will be an intervention by an Iranian activist in honor of the struggle of women in Iran and the names of the 22 women murdered in Portugal during the year 2022 will be evoked", says a statement released by the organisation.

"In the fight against patriarchal violence, no right is safe from setbacks. In the march for our life and our freedom, we reaffirm and defend conquered rights, and we fight for causes that go beyond legal conquests. We continue to have machismo, homophobia, and transphobia inside and outside the home, on the streets, in schools, in public services, and at work", warn the organisations.
