The data was advanced by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, during a hearing at the Budget and Finance Committee as part of the discussion in the specialty of the proposed State Budget for 2023 (OE2023).

According to Ana Mendes Godinho, so far “about 55,000 workers” have registered on the website of the Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP) to express interest in looking for a job in Portugal.

Ana Mendes Godinho highlighted the “extraordinary evolution since 2015” regarding foreign workers who declare remuneration to Social Security, indicating that in 2015 there were “110,000 foreign people contributing to the Social Security system” and in 2022 this number is 530,000”.
