In a statement the Public Security Police (PSP) indicates that the data concern us related to mainland Portugal and the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira.

In the last five years, “more than 129,400 road inspection operations have been carried out, with around 5,434,300 drivers having been inspected”, the police statement reads.

Police officers carried out 1,905,864 alcohol tests and made 26,111 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and 30,482 arrests for driving without a legal license.

In the same period under analysis, more than 14 million vehicles were controlled by radar, of which 430,640 were detected “in excess of speed”, which represents “about 3.1%”, said the PSP.
