The carnival program takes place this year under the theme 'Madeira, Joy and Folia', said the regional secretary for Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus.

“We have already carried out a survey to find out what the expected hotel occupancy is, which will be around 80%, and we were careful to compare it with the survey in the last year of Carnival, which was in 2019, and at that time it was 73%. Therefore, we are seven percentage points above what happened that year”, said the Madeiran official.

The highlight of the program is the parade that runs along the city's coastal avenue on February 18, in which around 1,500 participants from 12 troupes will parade.

Every day street entertainment with carnival music, shows and different performances, namely by philharmonic bands that will hold 22 performances and 12 concerts.

The regional secretary added that there will also be entertainment for children with face painting, balloon modelling, Carnival games and activities, dances, performances, shows, plays, stories and other activities.

Children from six schools and kindergartens, a total of 1,000 participants, will parade in a procession, “showing their costumes”.

Eduardo Jesus highlighted that this program involves a total of 4,460 people.
