This is about half of the increase that the concessionaires proposed in November, based on the evolution of inflation, and which the Executive refused, according to Jornal de Negócios.
According to the newspaper, the Government's intention is to set a maximum limit for the increase in tolls in 2023 above the 2% brake that was applied to rents, but below the 9% to 10% proposed by the concessionaires. Last week, the Minister of Infrastructure, Pedro Nuno Santos, had already guaranteed that tolls would not increase in line with inflation, repeating the promise that had already been made by the Prime Minister, António Costa.
Motorway concessionaires had until November 15 to communicate their price proposals for 2023 to the Government, after which the State had 30 days to comment. The Executive and the concessionaires have been meeting to define the limit, as well as the compensation principles, and the details of the latter may only be closed at the beginning of next year.
