Speaking to journalists at a rally that is taking place today in Rossio, Lisbon, Mário Nogueira took stock of the first day of the strike promoted by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) and seven other trade union organizations, asking that, in the coming days, membership continues to increase.
Hundreds of teachers from schools in the Lisbon district were gathered at around 11:00 in Rossio.
The teachers' strike by districts, called by a platform of eight union organizations, started today and will last for 18 days.
After the first day in Lisbon, the stoppage continues in Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Portalegre, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Viseu, ending in Porto on the 8th of February.
This strike is taking place at the same time as two other strikes are taking place: an indefinite strike, called by the Union of All Teachers (STOP), which began on December 9th and will continue, at least, until the end of the month, and a partial strike at the first half of classes called by the Independent Union of Teachers and Education (SIPE), which should last until February.
