Algarve has highest Covid-19 transmission rate in the country

Transmission rate in Portugal is 1.22, the Algarve is currently the region of the country with the highest index: 1.29

The Algarve currently has the highest Covid-19 transmission rate (Rt) in the country. The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Portugal is 1.22. In terms of geographical distribution, the Algarve is currently the region of the country with the highest index: 1.29. The North is the region with the lowest transmissibility index, with 1.18, followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (1.23), Madeira (1.24), the Central region (1.25), Alentejo and Azores (1.27).

Rounding a R- number to two decimal places is absurd: that second digit is mere noise. What can be said (and with a few caveats) is that the national T-number, in the last weeks, is approximately 1.2 (which is very, very bad).

The Algarve probably has some of the highest rates of retired and older people too who are more susceptible to catching the virus and also have many underlying health issues. These people are the ones who should be staying at home whilst allowing the younger people and businesses to work albeit adhering to full safety measures.
