Portugal advises against AstraZeneca vaccine; preferably only for under-65s

The health ministry has said the AstraZeneca vaccine should preferably be used on under-65s, becoming the latest European country to express reservations about its efficacy on older people.

However, it still said the vaccination of a person of 65 years or more should not be delayed if the AstraZeneca vaccine is the only one available.

The first batch of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived on Sunday, numbering just over 40,000 doses. The country has so far received just under 400,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and around 20,000 Moderna doses.

Why is there no clear vaccination plan in respect to how to ensure you get access to the vaccine as a high-risk individual? How do you get access to the vaccine if you are a permanent resident when you are repeatedly told we will contact you by SMS, but how if they don't know you exist? You are then told to email the medical authority but they never respond and if you phone they tell you to email as that is the only protocol.

The Uk has vaccinated 13 million people. More than the whole population of Portugal. The EU were up in arms about the Uk getting all the AstraZeneca vaccinations. Next thing half the countries dont trust it. Why complain in the first place then. I am sure all the over 70s in the Uk feel more at ease now than having nothing. Really dont understand all this rubbish.

My husband was telephoned this morning from the Centro da Saude in Silves and called in for his Covid vaccination this afternoon, which went without a hitch, he didn’t feel a thing and every body was calm friendly and efficient. It was Astra Zeneca, no side affects yet! Given his appointment for the second dose. Waiting patiently for mine now!
