In a press release sent to the Lusa agency, it can be read that the Mayor “is concerned about the deficient Internet coverage service in some parishes in the municipality, in the current context in which digital communications assume particular relevance in remote working and in distance learning ”.

“The mayor met today with the president of the Ceira Parish Council, Fernando Santos, who said that the installation of optical fiber by Altice, in August, has not been completed and that the ADSL Internet service has been presenting several limitations. The municipalities will again complain to the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM), an entity that has the competence to supervise compliance with the law in this sector”, says the press release.

The Mayor of Coimbra said that it is “unfortunate that the operators do not guarantee adequate Internet coverage with sufficient quality to respond to the needs of the population”.

"It is not acceptable that for this reason there are citizens harmed in their work or in education", stresses Manuel Machado.
