According to the minister, the change in the interval time will allow to increase the vaccination rate in more than 100 thousand people until the end of this month, having also underlined the “broad technical consensus” around the revision of the standard by the Directorate-General of the Health about this vaccine.

“We want to note that today the DGS 2020 standard 21 day interval, regarding the Pfizer vaccine, has been updated today, extending the interval between taking the first and second doses from 21 to 28 days. It is a decision with broad technical consensus from DGS and Infarmed and that will allow the vaccination of over 100 thousand people by the end of March ”, he said, at a press conference held at the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon.

In Portugal, 16,317 people died from 804,562 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
