Portuguese cobblestone is a candidate for National Intangible Cultural Heritage, it was unveiled today in Lisbon. The move aims to preserve the decorative sidewalk craft as an “identity element” and to value the art of paving, according to the promoters of the initiative. The proposal, which is to be submitted today, was unveiled at a ceremony at Lisbon Council, attended by representatives of the Portuguese Calçada Association, which promoted the candidacy, and the municipality of Lisbon, the city where this type of pavement is most widely found.
