According to the DGS epidemiological situation report, the number of patients admitted to the ward rose to 771, six more than on Sunday.

In intensive care units (ICU) there are 165 inpatients, five less than the previous day.

The data also indicates that 555 people were reported to have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered to 767,874 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020.

Active cases in Portugal continue to record a decrease, with 33,120 recorded today, minus 323.

Since March 2020, Portugal has registered 16,784 deaths associated with covid-19 and 817,778 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Health authorities have 15,080 contacts under surveillance, 94 more than the previous day.

According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, Portugal currently has 1,351,516 people vaccinated against covid-19: 903,964 with the first dose and 447,552 with the second dose.

Of the 16 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 12 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, three in the Centro region and one in the Autonomous region of Madeira.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 85 new infections were reported, accounting for 309,842 cases and 7,095 deaths so far.

The North region has 58 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 329,542 cases of infection and 5,289 deaths.

The Algarve region has reported 44 new cases, totalling 20,469 infections and 351 deaths.

In the Centre region there were 27 more cases, with a total of 116,688 infections and 2,989 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 13 more cases were reported, totalling 28,910 infections and 966 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

Today, the Azores have 11 new cases, accounting for 3,965 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and 28 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 10 new cases were registered, accounting for 8,362 infections and 66 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira disclose their data on a daily basis, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

Of the total fatalities, 8,814 were men and 7,970 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,064 were people over 80 years old, 3,562 aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,494 were between 60 and 69 years old.
