According to the Idealista price index, at the end of March this year, the cost to rent a house stood at an average of €11 per square metre (m2). As for the quarterly variation, the decrease was 1.7 percent.

During the last year, the prices of houses for rent decreased in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (-6.4 percent), in the Algarve (-2.7 percent) and in the North (-1.3 percent). On the other hand, the Autonomous Region of the Azores saw the greatest increase in prices, with a rise of 19 percent, followed by the Centre (4.7 percent), the Autonomous Region of Madeira (4.6 percent) and the Alentejo (2.1 percent).

The Lisbon Metropolitan Area, with €12.6 per m2, continues to be the most expensive region, followed by the North (€9.3 per m2), Algarve (€9.1 per m2), and the Autonomous Region of Madeira (€8.3 per m2). On the opposite side of the table, the cheapest regions are Centre (€6.3 per m2), Alentejo (€7.1 per m2) and Autonomus Region of the Azores (€7.3 per m2).
