Mayor of Vila Real de Santo António arrested

The mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, Coneição Cabrita, was arrested today by the judiciary police (PJ) for suspected irregularities in a real estate business in Monte Gordo, according to a Lusa source.

According to the same source, the mayor (PSD) was detained “on the way out of the house”, when he was going to the municipality, where he was supposed to participate in a council meeting, which ended up being held without his presence.

The fizzling out of the recent Arab Spring attempted Revolutions has refocused attention on the first fizzled out Arab Spring Revolution- Portugal's over 40 years ago in 1974.

Is the ability to honk car horns in protest at yet another example of corruption being unchallenged in Portuguese courts, the sole achievement of 1974? But Portuguese citizens honking car horns today are still not without risk.

How many honkers from last week now fear that their matriculation had been 'noted'. Already their sleep sporadic and disturbed.

Anticipating difficulties now with the local or national authorities or ... that highly deserved promotion at work that now will never come. Their personnel file now labelled a 'honker'.
Is that time honoured solution 'emigration' the only option? Or stay and start another Revolution?

To Sybil Wright - what does the arab spring revolutions got to do with Portugal. Our situation is completely different from that side of the World. Sadly, we are regulated by the ECB which is systematically destroying the EU economy and we have no oil or much natural resources. In terms of corruption, it is everywhere. The US is much worst than us, but it has been legalised as
“lobbying” with so many special interests that are devastating your country.
