The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Figueira da Foz (SMPCFF) was also called to intervene in the municipalities of Coimbra, Góis, Condeixa and Montemor.

In 2021, the intervention to combat the Asian wasp focused on the parishes of Alhadas, Bom Sucesso, Buarcos and São Julião, Ferreira-a-Nova, Lavos, Maiorca, Marinha das Ondas, Paião, Tavarede and Vila Verde, according to a press release.

The Municipal Civil Protection Service warns in view of the time of year "for the special attention to be had in view of the diversity of nests, since those that now begin to appear are smaller in size than usual.

The residents who find a nest or suspect the existence of one should inform the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Figueira da Foz through the email smpcff@cm-figfoz.pt or by phone 233 402 805 and indicate the place, their contact and, if possible, send photographs.

In 2020, the municipality of Figueira da Foz acquired a compressed air gun "adapted to the use of small frozen spheres with insecticides for situations of inaccessible nests, so that the service provided by the Forest Guards can be provided with the best conditions of safety and efficiency," reads a note.

The nest destruction service is provided free of charge.

The hornet velutina is an Asian species that has a destructive action on honey bee hives and may be a danger to public health.

This predatory wasp species was introduced into Europe via the port of Bordeaux in France in 2004. The first signs of its presence in Portugal appeared in 2011, but the situation only worsened from the end of the following year.
