In a statement, ANSR, the National Republican Guard and the Public Security Police indicate that the campaign, which will run until 26 April, is part of the 2021 National Inspection Plan and aims to alert drivers to the risks of speeding.

The campaign will have awareness actions that will take place simultaneously with inspection operations that will take place on A1, in Vila Franca de Xira (Lisbon district), on Avenida da Régua, in Ovar (Aveiro), Estrada Nacional (EN) 18, next to the Tortosendo viaduct (Castelo Branco), and EN 372, in Elvas (Portalegre).

According to the note, the campaign also includes surveillance through the national network of radars.

ANSR, GNR and PSP point out that speed limits and rules regarding moderation exist for the protection of everyone, especially the most vulnerable, so compliance with them is vital.

According to the statement, speed is the main cause of a third of all fatal accidents.
