“The first quarter of 2021 was quite positive for Portuguese wine exports, compared to the same period in 2020. […] The first quarter of 2021 saw an increase of 13 percent in exports compared to the same period in 2020, having surpassed €200 million”, ViniPortugal said in a statement.

By market, Finland was the country that registered the highest percentage increase, with an increase of 42.20 percent until March (3.38 million Euros).

It was followed by Poland, which advanced 37.74 percent (7.15 million Euros), Norway, with a further 32.21 percent (3.32 million Euros) and Denmark with 24.11 percent (3, EUR 57 million).

Among the third countries, Portuguese wine exports to Brazil (+ 38.5 percent) and the United Kingdom (+ 9.41 percent) stand out, with 15.51 million Euros and 14.04 million Euros, respectively.

According to the association's data, exports to China represented 3.93 million Euros, that is, 35.61 percent more than in the first quarter of 2020.

Conversely, Angola and Japan recorded decreases of 31.87 percent and 13.50 percent, respectively.

“We are very pleased to feel that the market has moved again. This great growth that was felt in this first quarter allows us to predict a favourable year of 2021, not only for the opening of new markets, but for the progressive growth of exports to our main markets”, said, quoted in the same document, the president of ViniPortugal, Frederico Falcão.
