CR7 was seen taking away the bottles of Coca-Cola and then holding up a bottle of water declaring “Agua!” during a press conference in Budapest before the Portugal game against Hungary, which they would later go on to win, with two goals from the captain himself.

Often described as a “health fanatic”, the snub by Cristiano Ronaldo coincided with a $4 billion fall in share prices of Coca Cola.

As an official sponsor of Euro 2020, Coca-Cola responded to the actions of Ronaldo stating that “everyone is entitled to their drinks preferences”, while a spokesman from the tournament said: “Players are offered water, alongside Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, on arrival at our press conferences.”
