According to the source of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA), the human remains, found after the searches ended on Sunday, will be analyzed to determine their origin.

On Friday, heavy rain caused the dragging of a vehicle from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Povoação, followed by the two employees, who would be providing home support and who are still missing.

The vehicle was located that day at the bottom of a river near Povoação, but no people were seen. The parish of Ribeira Quente is also located in the municipality of Povoação.

The searches for the two women have involved elements of the SRPCBA, the five fire brigades of São Miguel, the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Povoação, the Captaincy of the Port of Ponta Delgada, the Maritime Police, the Association of Lifeguards of the Costa Norte and PSP.

Today, operations resumed at 08:00 (09:00 in Lisbon), ending around 17:00, with 16 soldiers from the Operational Command of the Azores joining the field operations.
