During the 'mega operation', which began at dawn, the Public Security Police (PSP) carried out 11 searches in homes in the city of Faro, in the parish of Estoi (Faro) and in Almancil (Loulé), having also identified and three other men.

The commander of the police operation, Deputy Commissioner Diogo Magalhães told Lusa that the arrest of the men, aged between 20 and 60 years, “was the result of an investigation that began about a year ago, within the scope of combating drug trafficking".

"In addition to drug trafficking, detainees are also charged with crimes of theft and offenses against physical integrity," said the official.

According to Diogo Magalhães, during the police action, two firearms, computer and communications equipment and various narcotics were seized, namely cocaine, heroin and hashish, “in quantities that are being evaluated”.

According to the same source, around 100 elements of the various areas of the PSP were involved in this operation, including teams from the Special Police Unit (UEP) and from the Rapid Intervention (EIR) and GNR.
