According to the "Employment and Unemployment Monthly Estimates" released on 30 June by the National Statistics Institute (INE), provisional data indicate that in May, the unemployment rate (according to the concept of the International Labour Organisation) increased to 7.2 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month and 1.2 percentage points more than in May 2020.

INE reports that according to the revised (but still provisional) April 2021 estimate, the unemployed population was 353.9 thousand people, having increased by 6.4 percent (21.4 thousand people) compared to March 2021 and 10.6 percent (34.1 thousand) compared to April 2020.

The youth unemployment rate was estimated at 24.4 percent, decreasing by 0.5 percentage points from the previous month.

The adult unemployment rate stood at 5.9 percent, up by 0.2 percentage point from March 2020.
