Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned as the joint top scorer in Euro2020 alongside Czech Patrik Schick but picked up the golden boot award thanks to his number of assists.

The captain of the Portuguese national team racked up five goals (in four games).

Ronaldo started with two goals against Hungary (3-0), the first from a penalty, then he scored one against Germany (2-4), in a game in which Diogo Jota also scored, and in closing the group stage he scored another two penalties against France (2-2).

For his part, Schick started with two goals against Scotland (2-0), including a goal just ahead of midfield, the longest of Euro2020. He then scored as a penalty against Croatia (1-1) and in the last match of the group stage he failed to score against England (0-1).

In the round of 16, he scored against the Netherlands in a 2-0 victory, and in the quarter-finals he also won against Denmark, but his goal was insufficient to prevent a 2-1 loss and the elimination of the Czech Republic.

Ronaldo and Schick’s five goals are one behind the record of the top scorer of Euro2016, Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, who five years ago scored five goals, the last two in the semi-finals, against Germany (2-0). He was also voted best player.

Ronaldo, who scored three goals in 2016, had already been one of the best in 2012, when he then scored three goals, the same as Russian Alan Dzagoev, Croatian Mario Mandzukic, German Mario Gomez, Italian Mario Balotelli and Spaniard Fernando Torres.

With a fistful of goals at Euro2020, Cristiano Ronaldo stood out as the leading scorer in European championship history, going on to add 14 goals, five more than Frenchman Michel Platini, scorer of his nine goals at the European Championship in 1984 .
