“In the seven months of 2021, 113,541 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented a decrease of 34.2 percent compared to the same period of 2019, although the comparison with 2020 shows an increase of 18.1 percent,” the association highlighted in a statement.

In monthly terms, there was a drop even compared to 2020, ACAP indicated, pointing out that “in July 2021, 14,219 motor vehicles were registered by legal brand representatives operating in Portugal, i.e. 34.7 percent less than in the same month of 2019 and 21.4 percent less when compared to July 2020.”

With regard to the light passenger market, between January and July “93,768 units were registered, which translated into a negative variation of 36.2 percent compared to the same period of 2019”, and “compared to the seven months of 2020, the market registered an increase of 17.1 percent “.

On the other hand, in the month of July, “12,323 new light passenger cars were registered in Portugal, that is, 33.2 percent less than in the same month of 2019”, with the “market also registering a 19 percent drop compared to the same period of the previous year”.

As for the light goods market, in cumulative terms, 16,931 units were recorded, “which represented a decrease of 23.6 percent compared to the same period of 2019 and an increase of 19.6 percent compared to the same period of 2020”. In July, this segment achieved a “negative evolution of 48.3 percent compared to the same month of 2019, standing at 1,622 units registered”, and “when compared to the seventh month of 2020, there is also a decrease of 35.9 percent”.

Finally, with regard to heavy vehicles, in the first seven months of 2021 “registrations in this category totalled 2,842 units, which represented a market decrease of 13.7 percent compared to the same period of 2019 and an increase of 50.1 percent when compared to the same period of 2020,” ACAP advanced.

In parallel, in July 2021 “274 vehicles were registered in this category, which represents an increase of 26.3 percent compared to the same month of 2019, but compared to July 2020, the market registered a drop of 24.5 percent”.
