Netflix, the most popular streaming platform in Portugal, will increase the prices of two of its subscription models starting this Thursday for subscribers in Portugal.

According to PÚBLICO the price rise has been confirmed by a spokesperson for Netflix and the new prices are already being shown in the tables that integrate the accounts of Portuguese users. The increase is one euro and two euros on the Standard and Premium services. The value of the basic subscription remains unchanged.

The price of the Standard plan increases from €10.99 to €11.99 and the Premium plan from €13.99 to €15.99. The price will remain at €7.99 for the basic plan.

This change in prices is justified as being a reflection of “improvements” in the Netflix catalog and in the quality of the service, according to a statement sent to PÚBLICO. “We continue to invest in great stories from Portugal and around the world to provide the best entertainment for all our viewers — regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, beliefs or state of mind”.

“Our price changes reflect this approach. We offer a range of plans so that people can choose the one that suits them best, ensuring that as many people as possible can enjoy our content”.

Those who already have a Netflix account will receive information by email and in the service app and the price increase will be felt “over the next few weeks” depending on the billing cycles of each customer. Those who subscribe to Netflix will now be charged at the new rates “immediately”.
