The IPMA has also placed several municipalities in all districts on the continent (18) at very high and high risk of fire.

The risk of fire will remain high in some regions of the continent until at least Sunday.

This risk determined by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

Due to continued weather conditions that increase the risk of fire, the Government determined on Monday that 14 districts on the continent will remain on alert until the end of today.

The decision, signed by the ministers of Defence, Internal Administration and Environment, covers the districts of Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Santarém, Setúbal, Vila Real and Viseu.

As part of the alert situation, the Government recalled in a statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Administration, exceptional measures are implemented such as the prohibition of access, circulation and stays inside forest areas previously defined in the Municipal Plans for the Defense of Forest Against Fires.

The same prohibition applies to forest paths, rural paths and other roads that cross them.

The declaration of the alert situation implies, for example, the increase in the level of readiness and operational response of the GNR and PSP, with reinforcement of the means for surveillance and other operations.

Due to the hot weather and high temperatures, the IPMA has placed the mountainous regions of Madeira under an orange weather warning and the North Coast of the island and Porto Santo on a yellow alert until 18:00 today.

The districts of Évora and Beja are also under a yellow weather warning because of the hot weather until 18:00 today.

The orange weather warning indicates a moderate to high risk weather situation and the yellow one is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
