According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 497 people are hospitalised with covid-19 today, 30 fewer than on Wednesday, 103 of them in intensive care units, 16 fewer in the last 24 hours.

The area of ​​Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 337 new cases, and the North region, with 425, have 71.17% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (3), in the North region (1), in the Centre region (1) and in Alentejo (1).

Regarding the victims' ages, five were over 80 years old and one between 50 and 59 years old.

Regarding the age characterization of new confirmed cases of infection, it is between 50 and 59 years (men and women) that there were more cases, with 175 more infected in the last 24 hours.

This is followed by the age groups between 40 and 49 (158), between 20 and 99 years old (144 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (140 new cases).

Data released by the DGS also show that there are fewer 375 active cases, totalling 35,165.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,888 people have died in Portugal and 1,059,409 cases of infection have been registered.

Health authorities have under surveillance in the last 24 hours less 837 people, totalling 32,515.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 337 new infections, has so far accounted for 410,014 cases and 7,644 deaths.

In the Northern region, 425 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 407,074 cases of infection and 5,540 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 146 more cases, with a total of 141,543 infections and 3,124 deaths.

In the Alentejo, another 50 cases were reported, totalling 38,270 infections and 1,014 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 78 new cases, accumulating 41,748 infections and 452 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 14 new cases, totalling 12,069 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 12 new cases, accounting for 8,691 cases and 42 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 489,247 men and 569,419 women, show data from the DGS, according to which there are 743 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,379 were men and 8,509 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,674 were over 80 years old, 3,831 were between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,627 were between 60 and 69 years old.
