They are a private non-profit Social Solidarity Institution who rely on funding to help with their wonderful work and ongoing activities which include arts and crafts, music and physio and much more.

The event united everyone with entertainment by The Three Buskerteers who played songs from movies as well as great rock and roll numbers. An incredible amount of €5,360 was raised due to the joint effort of so many people behind the scenes as well as generous local businesses, restaurants and hotels who made it possible to raise this very generous amount.

“A huge thank you to everyone who kindly supported this event and everyone who donated and bought raffle tickets for such an important cause. This event was also significant due to the fact that on the 21st of this month was World Alzheimer’s Day which aims to bring awareness and end the stigma of those who suffer with dementia”.

The AHDPA center “provides day care facilities and companionship for sufferers of these two diseases together with psycho social support programmes and physiotherapy support to families of sufferers. The staff includes two psychologists but also relies on volunteers who provide invaluable additional support.”

The AHDPA told me that “the institution is deeply grateful to Mrs. Julia Hammond for the initiative and organisation of the fundraising event, as well as to all those who collaborated on it, as they contributed to improving the quality of life of users in our Day Center. We had already benefited from Mrs. Julia Hammond's generosity on the 8 July, 2021, when her band The Three Buskerteers entertained our users with a great musical concert.”

Additionally, Author Jenny Grainer, who has lived in the Algarve since 1968, has kindly given The Portugal News 11 copies of her book “Portugal and the Algarve Now and Then” and would like the money to go to Charity. Copies of her delightful book will be available to buy here at The Portugal News for €10 and all the proceeds along with any kind donations will go directly to AHDPA charity for their continued work.
