According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS), 412 people are hospitalised today with Covid-19, 14 less than on Wednesday, 75 of which in intensive care units, three less than the day before.

The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (2), in the Centre region (2) and in the North (1).

Looking at the age profile of the new cases of confirmed infection, children up to 9 years were those who recorded the most new cases in the last 24 hours: the bulletin points 65,400 infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 128 more than on Wednesday.

Next in line are adults aged between 30 and 39 (125 more cases) and young people aged between 20 and 29 (112 more cases). Children and young people between 10 and 19 years old are again on the rise, with 109 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.

Below the 100 new cases of infection are adults between 50 and 59 years (more 98 cases), between 60 and 69 years (75 cases), between 70 and 79 years (more 68 cases) and finally the elderly over 80 years (more 60 new infections).

The data released by the DGS also show that there are 103 less active cases, totalling 32,166.

Since the start of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,938 people with Covid-19 have died in Portugal and 1,064,876 cases of infection have been recorded.

Health authorities have 231 fewer people on surveillance in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 28,235.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, with 330 new infections reported, has so far counted 411,948 cases and 7,666 deaths.

In the North region, 258 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 408,946 cases of infection and 5,547 deaths since the pandemic began.

In the Centre region, 140 more cases have been registered, accumulating 142,260 infections and 3,134 deaths.

In Alentejo 44 more cases were reported, totalling 38,564 infections and 1,020 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin records 103 new cases, accumulating 42,244 infections and 457 deaths.

The Autonomous region of Madeira recorded 8 new cases, adding 12,158 infections and 72 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores has two new cases today, counting 8,756 cases and 42 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 572,264 women and 491,873 men in Portugal and, DGS data show, there are 739 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,408 were men and 8,530 were women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,715,909 deaths worldwide, among more than 230 million infections by the new coronavirus recorded since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest assessment by the Agence France-Presse.
