According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released today, 383 people are now hospitalised, three more than on Wednesday, of which 64 in intensive care units, plus two in the last 24 hours.

Of the nine deaths, three occurred in the North region, three in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, two in the Algarve and one in the Center.

According to the DGS, five of the victims were over 80 years old, three between 70 and 79 years old and one between 60 and 69 years old.

Since March 2020, 18,231 people have died and 1,102,438 cases of infection have been recorded.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,897), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (3,904) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,658).

Of the total number of fatalities registered to date in Portugal, 9,553 were men and 8,678 women.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities has risen (another 969), now standing at 26,920.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 510,554 men and 591,131 women, according to data from the DGS, according to which there are 753 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically .

Among the new infections, the age group from 40 to 99 years old (over 229) stands out, followed by zero to nine years old (over 216), from 20 to 29 years old (over 202), from 30 to 39 years old (over 201) , from 50 to 59 years old (over 166), from 60 to 69 years old (over 146), from 10 to 19 years old (over 135), from 70 to 79 years old (over 115) and over 80 years old (over 67).

The highest number of infections in the last 24 hours occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, where 549 were reported, with 425,401 cases and 7,758 dead so far in this geographic area.

The Northern region registered 322 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totalling 419,118 cases of infection and 5,614 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 365 more cases, totalling 149,795 infections and 3,195 deaths.

The regions of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, North and Centre account for around 84% of new cases.

In the Alentejo, 74 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 40,585 infections and 1,056 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's DGS bulletin counts 118 new cases, accumulating 44,847 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 486 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 44 new cases, totalling 13,153 infections and 76 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores registered five new cases, which raises to 9,539 infections since the beginning of the pandemic and 46 deaths due to the disease.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
