“I appeal to all people to only travel to the airport if they have the absolute need to travel. At this point we will have the arrivals area closed and the people who come to the airport will not have the best conditions to wait”, said Rui Alves.

The director of Humberto Delgado airport, in Lisbon, was speaking to journalists at the joint press conference of the Public Security Police, the Foreigners and Borders Service, the General Directorate of Health, National Civil Aviation Authority and ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, on the application of the restrictive measures of the pandemic to be in force at the air borders from 1 December.

All passengers traveling on international flights, regardless of having a vaccination certificate, are required to submit a negative diagnostic test for Covid-19 at the time of boarding.

Travellers with a Covid-19 recovery certificate, which is valid for six months, do not need to present a negative test upon arrival in Portugal.

These new restrictive measures at the airports of Lisbon, Porto and Faro will last until January 9, 2022.

Pedro Pinho, director of airport security at the PSP's Lisbon Metropolitan Command, also warned of constraints in the arrivals area of the airport.

“You won't be able to get to the arrivals area, you'll have to ensure a safe distance in outdoor areas. The suggestion for those coming to the airport is to wait for family members in the car park”, added Pedro Pinho.
