Entitled Quinta de Santo António Hotel and Winery (cellar and hotel at Quinta de Santro António, in Adorigo, municipality of Tabuaço, district of Viseu), the project won a prize from the “World Architecture Festival” (WAF), in the “Leisure” category and is now a candidate for “Future building of the year”.

“This is the only architecture studio in Portugal competing at the WAF”.

This project is considered “a unique opportunity to write a new page in the extraordinary millenary history of the Douro River in Portugal”.

“Both the monumental landscape, part of the Alto Douro region classified as World Heritage by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization] UNESCO, and the ancestral production of port wine, demands architectural that is elegant, responsible and subtle”, reads the project presentation.

The press release explains that the design of the hotel and the winery is the result of "a careful reading of all the natural and built elements" that characterize this landscape, which becomes evident "in the scale of the intervention and in the palette of colours and materials".

In this way, “a contemporary and harmonious building was created, capable of doing justice to its environmental, cultural and human heritage”.

Based in Porto and internationally awarded, the Sérgio Rebelo atelier follows sustainable construction and production models.
