An ancient sacred structure has been uncovered in a church in Tavira after being hidden for about 200 years.

The pyramidal structure with steps, surrounded by walls with decorative painting, was uncovered in the Santa Maria do Castelo church in late October. The finding coincided with the start of renovation work on the national monument.
