With the December data still missing, the Instituto do Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) registered this year 4,522,139 spectators in movie theatres, that is, 23.5% more than in the same period in 2020. In box office revenues, the increase has been 27.6 %, rising to €25.3 million.

Even without December data, it is possible to verify that 2021 will already surpass 2020 in terms of cinema frequency. In 2020, the ICA registered a total of 3.8 million viewers and €20.5 million.

Comparing only data from November 2021 and 2020, the increase is more than 500%, both in audience and in box office revenue, totalling this year 668,119 viewers and €3.7 million in revenue.

In November, the three most watched films by the Portuguese were "Eternals", with 153,521 viewers, "Dune", with 77,817 viewers, and "The Adams Family 2", with 54,203 viewers.

This year, with December still to be counted, the film most watched by the Portuguese, with 430,725 tickets issued, was "007 - No time to die".

"Bem Bom", by Patrícia Sequeira, is the most watched Portuguese film this year, with 87,949 viewers.
