This is the first time that the airline has extended the operation to the Algarve during the summer with the company stating that the long-haul connection is a clear positive sign of the importance that the region assumes.

“The company has been carrying out regular operations to Faro airport, but until now with regular flights only in the winter months. In fact, if we consider the records of the last 20 years, this will be the first time that the airline operates in Faro in the summer,” reads a statement from the company.

Francisco Pita, Chief Commercial Officer of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, said: "With this important commitment by Air Transat, placing the Algarve in its route portfolio as a summer destination, new opportunities are opening up for the development of tourism in region. It will be an important diversification of the offer on the summer routes to Faro Airport and we are very optimistic about the success of this operation”.

Joseph Adamo, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Air Transat, added that “We are very excited to resume our operations in Faro and to expand our service between Canada and Portugal. This now annual route allows Canadian visitors to explore the magnificent region of the Algarve, an increasingly popular coastal destination that has so much to offer in terms of culture and majestic landscapes, while also offering Portuguese passengers the opportunity to discover the Great White North”.
