Of the total number of infected people in the country, the overwhelming majority are undergoing treatment at home, with 2,027 (-17) people being hospitalised in hospital units, of which 154 (-8) are in intensive care.
There are more than 452,000 under surveillance by the health authorities, as they have been in contact with other people who have meanwhile been diagnosed with the disease.
The number of recovered people is currently at 1,701,896, some 26,160 more people compared to the previous balance. Portugal still registers 454,821 active cases.

They do not want to publish the bad news. Over 40 000 new case per day the last two days. Compare with 13 000 during the worst period last year. This is exploding. Please remind people to keep distance. And avoid meeting other people, when not needed. E.g No restaurants, bars, parties, shopping that is not needed... Enjoy nature solo. There are many beautiful places to walk, hike...

I’m a massive fan of Portugal and live in Northern Ireland. We have had restrictions reimposed since before Christmas, as have the Welsh the Scottish and even more severely, the Irish Republic. In England, there were virtually no restrictions. Now, all the other governments are lifting their restrictions. Truth is, if you look at the figures in terms of infection rates, hospitalisations and deaths, there was NO differences between the countries. The reason why? Because they had hugely high vaccinisation rates, especially boosters for the vulnerable. Omicron is so transmissible that there is virtually no point in lockdowns. I look forward to returning to Portugal this year and have three holidays booked already. Vai Portugal Vai Miguel Olivera.
