According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the earthquake was felt at 01:58 and the epicentre was located about 18 kilometres northwest of Melgaço.

“This earthquake, according to the information available so far, did not cause personal or material damage and was felt with maximum intensity III (modified Mercalli scale) in the regions of Melgaço and Monção,” the IPMA said in a statement.

The National Geographic Institute of Spain registered an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 at 02:58 local time (01:58 in Lisbon), with its epicentre in the Galician municipality of Mondariz, northwest of Melgaço.
