“Portugal has gone through five major epidemic waves and we are in the fifth largest wave since the beginning of the pandemic”, said the Public Health specialist at the Infarmed meeting, which is taking place in Lisbon and which brings together experts and policymakers.

According to data presented by Pedro Pinto Leite, currently the cumulative seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants, between February 7th and 13th, is 1,562 cases, which represents 45% less compared to the same period last year and indicates that Portugal is “in a downward trend” of the pandemic.

“The peak of the incidence will have occurred on January 28, with 2,789 cases in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants”, stressed the specialist from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
