In a statement, the Chega parliamentary group “reiterates the need to keep the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) in operation, at a time when the date of its extinction is close”, referring to the deadline, defined by law, which stipulates that the process of transferring SEF competences must be completed by May 12.

Protection of borders

“The protection of our borders cannot be compromised, especially in the current European context, in which there is information that reveals that illegal immigrants are using the war to enter our country illegally”, claims the party, but did not substantiate the allegations with facts.

Referring to “recent news” and “information”, Chega reports “networks to aid illegal immigration that are taking advantage of the temporary protection title granted by Portugal to all people who, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, if they were on Ukrainian territory to live, study or work”.

“It is therefore incomprehensible that, especially in this context, the government does not definitively reverse the decision to extinguish the SEF, and is, therefore, for ideological reasons, jeopardizing the security of Portugal and the whole of Europe, because without a strong criminal police body it is impossible to guarantee the security of the borders”, stresses the party.

Chega stresses “how important the defense” of borders is for Portugal and for Europe, reiterating the call for the Government to “reverse, definitively, the decision to extinguish the SEF”.
