According to the DGS weekly epidemiological bulletin, compared to the previous week, there were 706 more cases of infection, with a reduction of nine deaths in the comparison between the two periods.

As for hospital occupancy in mainland Portugal due to Covid-19, the DGS started to release data on hospitalisations for the Monday before the report was published on Fridays.

Based on this criterion, the bulletin indicates that, last Monday, 1,207 people were hospitalised, 35 more than on the same day of the previous week, of which 46 patients were in intensive care units, minus 14.

According to DGS data, the seven-day incidence was, on Monday, at 583 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, having registered a slight increase of 1% compared to the previous week, while the transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was at 1.00.

By region, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo recorded 20,703 cases between April 12 and 18, 458 less than in the previous period, and 44 deaths, two less.

The Central region accounted for 11,762 cases (plus 588) and 40 deaths (plus one) and the North totalled 16,100 cases of infection (plus 2,124) and 27 deaths (minus two).

In the Alentejo, there were 4,102 positive cases (minus 132) and eight deaths (minus six) and in the Algarve there were 3,107 infections by SARS-CoV-2 (minus 467) and nine deaths (minus two).

As for the autonomous regions, the Azores had 2,069 new infections between 12 and 18 April (minus 386) and three deaths (minus one), while Madeira recorded 2,240 cases in those seven days (minus 563) and eight deaths (plus three).

According to the DGS, the age group between 40 and 49 years old had the highest number of cases at seven days (9,928), followed by people between 50 and 59 years old (8,900), while children up to 9 years were the group with the fewest infections (2,862) in the seven days mentioned.

The bulletin also mentions that, in these seven days, 99 elderly people over 80 years old, 28 people between 70 and 79 years old, eight between 60 and 69 years old and four between 50 and 59 years old died.
