“We do not accept that the employers and the Government use the hoax that salary increases cause an inflation spiral”, said Isabel Camarinha in front of thousands of people who gathered after participating in the 1st of May parade of the CGTP, in Lisbon.
Isabel Camarinha defended that the Government should take “effective measures to control prices”, demanding “an extraordinary increase in the national minimum wage, setting it at €800 from 1 July 2022”.
The leader of the union also called for the extraordinary increase in pensions “by a minimum of €20” and again demanded a salary increase of €90 for all workers this year.

As labour forms part of the cost of producing or delivering almost all products and services, of course high wage increases will ultimately feed through to higher inflation. This union leader is living in fairyland, attempting to deny the obvious.

800 is gross and not net. Pt is part of Eu and wages here are ridiculously low while retail/food prices are at times higher than other EU countries. Ex Lidl in DE is cheaper than here.
So tired of hearing the rational of some who defend the current wages-perhaps they should try living on wages of less than 700!
