“The fight against violence in sport is a priority, and it is always a continuous struggle, even if there is progress in this work, it is always possible to do more”, said Ana Catarina Mendes.

The minister recalled that violence, racism and xenophobia “are transversal” to society, and guaranteed that the Government “will not neglect this matter”.

Ana Catarina Mendes highlighted the focus “in prevention, in reviewing the security models of the venues, and in awareness campaigns”, recalling that the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport (APCVD) is already doing this work.

The minister, who was alerted by deputy André Coelho Lima, from PSD, about the alleged insults by Boavista supporters to the Vitória de Guimarães Rochinha footballer, on Friday said: “It is necessary to condemn manifestations of hatred, racism, whether in the sporting context, in any space.”
