Albufeira, Lagoa, Lagos and Silves are jointly seeking this status for the first time, in a race that involves two more national regions (Douro and Vale do Lima).

The candidacy is to be decided at the European Parliament, in Brussels, on June 15, the day on which the winner will be announced by RECEVIN (European association that promotes and awards the title and which has more than 600 members).

Under the slogan “Algarve Golden Terroir”, the four Algarve municipalities intend to enhance wine tourism in the region and diversify the tourist offer. The Honour Committee for this candidacy includes names such as Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic, José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, Algarve singer Áurea, actor Rúben Garcia, and musician Cliff Richard.

The “Algarve Golden Terroir” program is aimed at all audiences and touches on topics such as education and dissemination of knowledge, to qualified training for adults in order to gain skills, through the various partner entities and promoters in the region, the country and the world.
