“From this moment on – and although the process involves more steps and may take several weeks to complete, including the alteration of all the signage in the airport infrastructure – the new designation Aeroporto Gago Coutinho may begin to be used in aeronautical communication and in passenger information”, informed the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.

In a statement, the Ministry’s office supervised by Pedro Nuno Santos notes that the process began on the same day, June 17, which marks 100 years since “the small single-engine seaplane manned by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral completed the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic, from Portugal”.
