The head of the operational area of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, superintendent Domingos Antunes, said at a press conference that policing “will be based on strong visibility” throughout the city, with a special focus on the Parque das Nações area, in addition to “a security reinforcement on arrival” to the Portuguese capital.

“We considered creating a permanent coordination, command and control structure, involving all Portuguese security forces and services, with the participation of Interpol and Europol. We expect around 7,000 people to visit us, obviously we had to strengthen our level of command and control”, said the official.

Regarding operational aspects, Domingos Antunes assumed that the conference, “although it does not have a relevant degree of threat - because there was not -, it will require a range of means”, namely in the scope of information, proximity policing, security units, intervention to restore public order and criminal investigation.

“We are planning to commit a total of about 1,650 police officers, which shows the effort of great commitment to this great event and the affirmation that Portugal has a culture of knowing how to organize these great international events,” he said.
