According to meteorologist Patrícia Gomes: “As of tomorrow [Tuesday] we may see temperatures reach above 45 degrees Celsius in the Tagus Valley and Alentejo region”.

Much of mainland Portugal will experience maximum temperatures above 40 degrees, according to forecasts.

The meteorologist highlighted that in some regions of the interior, in the Alentejo, Castelo Branco and even in Trás-os-Montes, these episodes are common, but are normally of a short duration, “for a period of three or four days”.

“This episode already started last week. We have had 10 days. It is a very long time to experience these temperatures and being so close to the coast is not a normal situation,” she admitted.
