Air traffic controller NAV wants to extend the timetable of
flights in Lisbon, for the night period, between October 18 and November 29,
due to the implementation of the new Top Sky control system, a company source
told Lusa.
An official source from NAV explained to Lusa that it is
about extending the timetable of flights in Lisbon, for the night period, not
to increase the volume of traffic, but to spread the flights over more hours,
thus allowing the update of the air traffic control system, from 18 October. The
idea is that the exceptional regime will be in force between October 18 and
November 29, explained NAV.
Lisbon airport has a night flight restriction regime, which
sets a limit of 91 weekly flights between 00:00 and 06:00, due to noise. In
July, the environmental association Zero denounced that noise levels at Lisbon
airport exceed legal limits and warned that the night flight restriction regime
is also not complied with, citing measurements taken in the week starting July
11 and which pointed to a total of 140 movements between 00:00 and 06:00.
The Top Sky project, common to six other countries and
coordinated by Eurocontrol, was presented by NAV in 2019 and foresees an
investment of 103.8 million euros, until 2023.
