EDP Produção “totally disagrees” with this decision, as
well as with the “qualification of the facts, the assessment of the evidence
and the legal reasoning” and reaffirms that it “has always complied with the
legal and contractual framework”, as well as the competition rules. Thus, EDP
Produção will analyse the decision “in detail” and consider using legal means
to safeguard its rights.
On 6 July, the Public Prosecutor's Office asked the
Competition Court to maintain the fine of 48 million euros imposed on EDP
Produção for abuse of a dominant position.

Where does that fine money go?
Especially if you're talking about millions.
Sometimes it almost feels like the authority taking the action against the company is some how in league, acting like a mafia Don that wants their cut of the loot.
The news often tells us about these companies being fined for one digression or another.
But has that penalty ever found its way back to the true victims?
Currently windfall profit is high profile news, with companies being taxed, or fined for making excessive profit from their consumers.
But do those consumers ever reap a benefit from the action taken against the company, or is it just the authority themselves that are rewarded?

I got an email from EDP warning me well in advance that my tariff was going to change. Some weeks later I received another email telling me my tariff was being reduced by 0.29%. Being aware of global fuel prices and the criminal price increases in the U.K. , I had braced myself for an increase so I was delighted to have a reduction. Now I am worried that if EDP is forced to pay this huge fine they may have to increase prices to pay for it which is surely not the intention of the courts?

Excellent questions Gerry; in Portugal you can be reassured that all that money will go to the private pockets of the authorities. Nothing much changes in regard to corruption in Portugal.
