The Lufthansa pilots' strike will cancel, this Friday (2 September), "almost all" of the company's flights to and from the main airports in Frankfurt and Munich.

On Wednesday, the Vereinigung Cockpit union announced that the “negotiations have failed”.

Workers demand a salary adjustment of 5.5% and automatic compensation for inflation.

Lufthansa expressed its “complete incomprehension” regarding the announcement of the strike, which comes in a context marked by constraints in the aviation sector due to the lack of workers at airports and the strike by ground workers, which took place at the end of July.

The group also said it had proposed a total increase of €900 per month, in two phases.

However, union leader Marcel Gröls, quoted by Agence France Press (AFP), defended that Lufthansa “must make a better offer”.
