The line was created on 1 April, 2020, at the height of the pandemic, in a partnership with SPMS, EPE, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses. In 2022, more than 46,000 calls have already been answered, on a telephone line that provides mental health professionals who answer calls in English.

Most calls are made by citizens who have symptoms of anxiety, or even aggravating symptoms of some already diagnosed psychopathology. In dangerous situations, both for the user and the people around him/her, the psychologists transfer the call to the INEM, ensuring "the activation of the appropriate rescue means":

The psychologist responding to the call "may also identify the need for referral to the SNS 24 Screening, Counselling and Referral service if they consider that the situation has not been resolved with psychological counselling or has other symptoms".
