The installation of the cameras is being carried out under a “protocol recently signed between the municipality and the Ministry of Internal Administration” and the equipment installed are “the first units of the 36 video surveillance cameras” that the municipality is planning to install.

According to a statement, the cameras will be installed following the guidelines of a protocol “signed between the municipality and the Ministry of Internal Administration”. In total, 36 cameras will be installed, and distributed throughout Portimão and Praia da Rocha.

The installation locations were chosen following a study carried out by the PSP.

According to the municipality, in Praia da Rocha, the installation of video surveillance equipment will be carried out “on the pedestrian path next to the cliffs, from the Fonte (or Vau) roundabout, connecting with Avenida Tomás Cabreira”. In this way, “the area where a large number of nightlife establishments are concentrated” is covered with video surveillance, justified the Portimão City Council. The municipality adds that the cameras will not capture images of places such as homes.
